Don’t miss Michelle Wooten McFarland’s presentation on the future of reproductive rights at our monthly Historic Triangle Dems meeting on Zoom, Thursday, May 19 at 7 pm. Michelle has worked in Hampton Roads for six years as a reproductive justice advocate to destigmatize abortion care access and reproductive healthcare. Also in her role with Pro-Choice Virginia, Michelle has worked in coalition with the Virginia Reproductive Equity Alliance to help grassroots efforts in the passage of the Reproductive Health Protection Act, which overturned TRAP Laws in Virginia, making Virginia the first southern state to do so. Michelle currently serves as a volunteer staff member for the Hampton Roads Reproductive Justice League, is a member of the Hampton Democratic Committee, Newport News Democratic Committee and is a former 2020 3rd Congressional National Delegate for the Democratic Party of Virginia. June is Pride month, and many  of us want to be good allies, but struggle with pronouns,  gender and sexual orientation concepts. A.C. Tierney, who serves as vice chair for membership for the state party's LGBT+ caucus, will give us a training in how to be a good ally. A.C. is training director for Thrive Virginia, which collaborates with community-based partners to create pathways to self-sufficiency for individuals and families on the Middle Peninsula. March with us in Yorktown’s 4th of July parade

Historic Triangle Dems will be marching in the Yorktown 4th of July Parade this year. Participants may park in the National Park Service Yorktown Battlefield Visitor Center parking lot and walk to the starting point, the picnic area at Yorktown Beach, where we'll gather at 8 am. State Sen. Monty Mason and Del. Mike Mullin will join us.  Herb Jones will also be marching in the parade.

Recent news has made us aware how important elections for law enforcement and other local offices can be. Longtime York Sheriff Danny Diggs is stepping down to run against Monty Mason for state senate. Ron Montgomery, acting sheriff, will join us to talk about law enforcement issues and answer our questions.  This is an important race, and we'll be inviting all the candidates to talk with us.
