Voting for Senate and House this fall
The General Election for 1st District House of Representatives and for Sen. Mark Warner’s Senate seat will be Tuesday, Nov. 3, with in-person early voting starting Friday, Sept. 18. Early voting this year will include voting on two Saturdays (Oct. 24 and Oct. 31) AND TWO SUNDAYS (Oct. 18 and Oct. 25).
Registering to vote
The deadline to register to vote is Friday, Oct. 28. Registration can be done online or at your local voter registrar’s office (see locations below). After Oct. 28, voters may register at early vote locations or at their polling place on Election Day and vote the same day using a provisional ballot.
Casting your vote
There are three ways to vote in this 2026 General Election:
Early Voting In Person
Early voting for the Primary Election starts on Friday, Sept. 18 and ends on Saturday, Oct. 31. Polls will be closed July 3 for the Independence Day holiday. Early vote locations are open Monday through Friday plus two Saturdays (Oct. 24 and Oct. 31) AND TWO SUNDAYS (Oct. 18 and Oct. 25). Hours vary depending on your locality (see below).
Early voting is open to ALL registered voters. Drive up voting is available for disabled/handicapped voters.

Bring your ID to vote, but a photo ID is not required. For a detailed list of acceptable forms of identification, click here. If you do not have identification, you can still vote (though it will take longer) by signing an ID Confirmation Statement or by voting a provisional ballot and providing ID later.
Absentee Voting by Mail
Apply to vote absentee by mail online or call your voter registrar to request a form by mail, fax, or email. Paper forms can be returned to your local Registrar (see below for locations). Your request for an absentee ballot by mail is must be received by your registrar’s office by 5 pm on Friday, Oct. 23.
When you receive your ballot, carefully follow the instructions to vote it. You must sign the inner envelope.

You can drop off your absentee ballot in person at your early voting center or registrar’s office during open hours through Election Day, Nov. 3. On Election Day, you can drop off your absentee ballot from 6 am to 7 pm at any polling location in the county or city where you are registered.
