Reorganization Caucus
Saturday, Jan. 10 at 10 am on ZOOM

Register here

Our Reorganization, the process under the Virginia Democratic Party Plan where we elect local committee leadership and approve new members, is moving forward to our Caucus on Saturday, Jan. 10 at 10 am.

We will vote in members and announce officers. Officers are considered duly elected because we had no more than one person file for any office by the filing deadline, so no vote for officers is necessary.

The deadline to join the committee in time to vote in the reorganization caucus was extended to January 3 at 5 pm and has now passed. You can join the committee at any time, but you are not eligible to vote in the caucus if you did not join as a voting member by January 3 at 5 pm. Here is the link to join the Historic Triangle Democrats for 2026.

Please note: If you have joined our committee as a voting member, you have made a commitment to attend all our voting meetings, including Saturday’s caucus.

Here is the Call to Caucus for our Reorganization.

Changes to our bylaws, recommended by our Executive Board, passed unanimously at our Dec. 18 meeting. The changes create two categories of membership and added additional positions on our Executive Board. Here are the changes to the bylaws:

Membership categories

The Virginia Democratic Party Plan states that a quorum of 30 percent of the membership is required for a local Democratic committee to take action. As Historic Triangle Democrats continue to grow, a quorum is getting harder to establish and requires a large attendance at meetings. Some larger committees handle this by limiting the number of voting members they have through various means.

Rather than setting a limit, we are establishing two membership categories to keep the quorum at an achievable number and allow people to select how they would like to participate in the committee.

Voting Member:

A Voting Member shall have the right to introduce motions and vote on all business before the committee. If you want to come to meetings consistently so that a quorum can be established, we want you as a Voting Member! A Voting Member who fails to attend three consecutive meetings without notifying the Chair will be moved to a Supporting Member of the Committee.

Supporting Member:

A Supporting Member is a person who may not be able to, or have an interest in, meeting the attendance requirements of a Voting Member. Supporting Members have all other rights of membership, including being a part of discussions that may result in a vote. If you participate in the activities of the committee but don’t attend meetings, this is the category for you.

All members, whatever the category you choose, are considered Members of the Historic Triangle Democrats. These changes are not intended to eliminate any Democrats’ voice in our committee. They are designed to keep the business of the committee moving forward.

New positions on the Executive Board

Four new positions were added to the Executive Board — a Volunteer Coordinator, a Young Democrats Liaison and At-Large Members for Williamsburg-James City County and for York County-Poquoson.

You can review the new bylaws here.

OFFICERS FOR HTD EXECUTIVE BOARD 2026-27:

Here are names and supporting statements submitted to run as officers for 2026-27. Because we had no more than one person file for any office, no vote for officers will be necessary

Chair

Jen Tierney*

As a professional political consultant, I have worked to bring a campaign focus to Historic Triangle Democrats, improving our fundraising, data management, and outreach. We have raised over $100,000 each of the past two years, improving our programs and the funds we can donate to candidates. As chair, my focus over the next two years will be to develop a precinct program for all localities to increase the number of volunteers who participate in HTDems. I believe we have even more potential to grow and have a bigger impact in our community, and I am excited to continue that work.

Vice Chair for Williamsburg

Jan Keady*

I have successfully served in this position for several years. I have filled the election positions at the polls, handled the signs and generally worked with most of the duties with the Historic Triangle Democrats.

Vice Chair for James City County

Christine Payne*

I have had the privilege of serving in this role since 2017. I have leveraged my position to build community relationships and serve as a bridge between our local democratic committee and organizations that share our values. While activism is an important aspect of our collective work, substantial change is made only when we elect members at all levels of government who are committed to those values. The work continues! I would be honored to have your support going forward.

Vice Chair for York County

Suzy Klyman*

As a proud, lifelong Democrat and a York County resident, I am running for the position of Vice Chair for York County. Currently, I serve on the HTD Executive Board as the Vice Chair for Poquoson. Poquoson has seen a significant increase in involvement and participation, and it has been my privilege to collaborate with the Democrats in Poquoson to support their growth and help them find their voice. In addition to my role as VC for Poquoson, I have supported our Democratic candidates by hosting a satellite launch site for canvassing in York County and Poquoson, assisted in organizing volunteers to staff early voting and election day, and spearheaded our presence at the Poquoson Seafood Festival, ensuring that the Historic Triangle Democrats were represented at one of our community’s most popular events. As Vice Chair for York County, I am committed to grow our Democrat membership and build on the momentum in York County to achieve an even stronger turnout for our Democratic candidates.

Vice Chair for Poquoson

Kim White

I am a lifelong resident of Poquoson and a retired teacher from Poquoson City Public Schools. I remain deeply committed to education, history, and civic engagement through my work as a Learning Facilitator with the Jamestown–Yorktown Foundation and as an Election Official for the City of Poquoson. I recently joined HTD and volunteered as a canvasser for Democratic candidates in the 2025 election. With a strong understanding of my community and a passion for preserving our democracy, I am excited to continue building on recent momentum and supporting the HTD team in meaningful ways.

Vice Chair for Media and Communications

MK Sizemore*

I have served as media and communications vice chair for the past six years. It’s been amazing to work with a great Chair and executive board team in building and expanding our committee in membership, volunteering and fundraising. My work has included promoting our identity through our logo, event graphics, canopy banners, signs, and window graphics. I’ve designed postcards and managed our postcard programs; designed logos, signs and walk cards for local candidates; and coordinated our website and a twice-weekly email that now reaches well over 3000 subscribers in the Historic Triangle. Communications has been my lifelong work, and it’s at the heart of what we must do to continue and expand our success as a committee and to win elections for Democrats. I’d be honored to continue in this role.

Vice Chair for Campaigns (Williamsburg-James City County)

Mary Beth Gibson*

I have just fulfilled my term in this role and am looking forward to serving again.

Vice Chair for Campaigns (York County-Poquoson)

Narielle Living*

I am a passionate supporter of the arts and have actively worked against book bans in our community. As a strong believer in the strength of diversity and reproductive freedom, I fully support our candidates who can help deliver the promised hope of freedom in our country.

Vice Chair for Membership and Data Management

April Greener*

I am running for reelection to be Vice Chair of Membership and Data. I have had the privilege of serving the Historic Triangle Democrats in this role since 2023 and would like the opportunity to continue to work with the Executive Board and our membership to grow our presence in Williamsburg, James City County, York County & Poquoson. In the 2026-27 cycle, I will work with you to mobilize our friends and neighbors to beat Republican Congressman Rob Wittman and elect a Democrat to Virginia’s 1st Congressional District! Prior to moving to Williamsburg, I worked in progressive politics for more than two decades with more than 17 years working as Research Director for Speaker Pelosi. In addition to my work with HTD, I am a mom of two WJCC students, an adjunct faculty member and a research associate in the Public Policy Program at William & Mary, and an avid reader.

Vice Chair for Events and Hospitality (Williamsburg-James City County)

Heather Scully

I serve as an administrative coordinator for the William and Mary Department of Government, planning and organizing events and coordinating external communications. A former teacher in the WJCC school system, I served as a mentor to student teachers and a clinical faculty member at the Wiliam and Mary School of Education. Warhill High School’s senior class voted me the most influencial teacher in 2017. I’m a longtime canvasser and supporter of our Democratic candidates and Historic Triangle Democrats.

Vice Chair for Events and Hospitality (York County-Poquoson)

Jaylan Haley

I am a USAF veteran settling my family in York County with my husband and little ones pending an adoption. I have launched and sustained an LGBT+ Youth non-profit in Montgomery, Alabama as Chair of a Board 10-person Board and Executive Director, I directly supported Virgil Thornton and Mark Downey to keep the General Assembly BLUE, and I’ve led 300 people as an intelligence officer to get the nation’s business done. I care about my country and now, I finally have a place to call home in it; fight’s on!

Special Projects Coordinator (Williamsburg-James City County)

Gerald Mitchell*

I’m a Navy veteran with extensive experience in law enforcement, anti-terrorism and tactical response and an enthusiastic supporter of veterans causes.

Special Projects Coordinator (York County-Poquoson)

Chris Mayer*

I believe that the best asset I can bring to the Executive Board is institutional knowledge and experience. We must always look for new and better ways of doing things. They must be done with perspective. I served five terms as chair of the York (York-Poquoson) Democratic Committee. I served for 20 years on the State Central Committee, including one term on the State Steering Committee, as Chair of the Virginia Association of Democratic Chairs. I respectfully ask for your vote.

Volunteer Coordinator

Evette Conwell***

I am a lifelong Democrat. I volunteered with the Historic Triangle Democrats (HT Dems) to help elect Kamala Harris and Tim Walz campaign for President and Vice President in 2024. I continued volunteering this past election season of 2025 for the state legislative campaigns. I severed as backup Secretary of the HT Dems Executive board during the past year. I have volunteered at the polls, worked in HT Dems office, writing and mailing post card land letters, canvased and phone banked.

I have been serving my community for past 40 years. I served in the PTA in my children’s school from elementary through high school. I started a Girls Scout Troop in my church and served as a leader and trained other leaders. I currently am the Secretary of the National Active and Retired Federal Employee Association, Williamsburg Chapter. I have worked on my Book Club’s Service Projects to raise funds to buy books for local schools.

I retired from NASA after nearly 40 years. My career spanned designing orbits for satellites for assent and re-entry, to transferring NASA technology out to industry, to space communications where I managed the link for rockets scientists to communicate with their rockets.

A mentor and friend advised me; it is better to get involved than being on the sidelines complaining how things should be. I have found this to be true. I would like to continue to be involved with the Historic Triangle Democrats and fight for candidates that will make a difference.

Young Democrats Liaison

Caleb Fulford***

I am now the Senior Session Aide for Delegate Elizabeth Bennett-Parker and Political Director for Delegate-Elect Mark Downey. I serve in leadership roles with the Historic Triangle Democratic Committee, the Virginia Democratic State Central Committee, and the LGBT Democrats of Virginia. In 2024, I was elected as a delegate to the Democratic National Convention for Virginia’s First District, the youngest person in history elected to represent the district. I’m also a first-year law student at the University of Richmond School of Law and a 2024 graduate from the College of William & Mary.

Secretary

Susan Wallace*

I have dedicated my life to serving others. I am trained as a clinical and school psychologist and have served in different capacities. I am currently retired but continue to promote positive mental health for citizens, especially children. In 2024, I completed a 10 year term on the Virginia Board of Psychology. I served as a School Psychologist in Fairfax County Public Schools for 18 years. I have also held positions at Wake Forest University and Hampton University and continue to promote and advocate for training of psychologists and other mental health professionals. I was an Assessment Consultant for Pearson Education an international publisher and largest psychological test producer where I served mid-Atlantic states with training and sales for 10 years. I am a lifelong Democrat and served as Secretary of the HTD last year. I was active in the 2024 Harris-Waltz campaign and in the 2025 state legislative campaigns. As a child of 60’s and 70’s I watched massive change when I was a student at Howard, Boston, and Pitt, but believe this may be the most critical time for our country. I would like to continue to serve and believe I can best do so working with HTD.

Treasurer

Jim Icenhour*

I have served as Treasurer for more than 5 years.

As a Democratic Dad who teaches public policy at William & Mary while serving in the U.S. Army Reserve, I ask for your support to be Executive Board Member At-Large (York County-Poquoson) so we can keep electing Democrats at the federal, state, and local levels. Working together to elect Democrats, we are creating a better world for the next generation.
